10 Things Poor Writers Can Do to Improve

Tip No. 1 – Do not give up:

One of the biggest mistakes poor writers do is to give up writing. This is a large problem, actually. One cannot hope to improve in a particular thing if they are not doing that at all! No matter how bad you think your writing is or how much you think you lack the spirit, keep writing.

Tip No. 2 – Write something every day:

Believe us. It will help. Write something- anything, but write daily. You don’t have to start working on a masterpiece on a daily basis. You could just write down your personal experience, about something you saw, something your teacher said, or even an angry rant about something that made you mad today. You stand to gain a lot from this. You will keep writing on a daily basis and get more comfortable with the process. You will also be able to measure the progress that you have made so far!

Tip No. 3 – Write with themes:

In case you feel like you can’t write without a concrete idea or structure, here is a solution. Think of a theme and write something related to that theme that day. You could write about anything- neo-liberalism, animals or even mermaids! It will give you an idea about the story and the structure you wish to emulate. In case you can’t think of any, seek help from random story line generators and write something based on that!

Tip No. 4 – Share your writing:

Most people are not too keen on sharing what they have written for they think people won’t like the same. This will certainly not do anything for your confidence, neither will it make you a stronger writer. If you are too shy of sharing your stories with your own friends, you can always start a blog or share it online.

Tip No. 5 – Start a blog:

Blogging is therapeutic and gives people good writing practice. You will be able to find out what the public opinion regarding you is, as well. You will be able to write while maintaining some level of anonymity.

Tip No. 6 – Start accepting rejection:

Some of the best literary works of our time have been rejected by peers. You need to learn that not all people will like your work -some of them might be incredibly vocal about the same, too. You just have to learn to start accepting the rejection and not let you deter it.

Tip No. 7 – Read a lot:

Once you start reading a lot of books, you will learn a lot about good writing. You will learn sentence structure, characterization, good writing, bad writing etc. It will help you form your own opinions and make you a better writer.

Tip No. 8 – Make sure that you find the right structure of writing:

There are tonnes of classes online and in colleges that teach people how to write well. They don’t just teach about sentence structures, writing, characterization and the flow of the story; they teach creativity, avoid giving out suspense and other such problems.

Tip No. 9 – Pay attention to grammar:

Bad grammar will certainly turn people off your writing, no matter how good you are. Take efforts into learning a lot more about grammar and make sure that you double check what you have written.

Tip No. 10 – Select a niche and stick with it:

Of course, there is nothing wrong with you dabbling in different fields of writing, but for now, it would be better for you to specialize in writing about a particular field and be good with it at the same.
